WESTGATE BRIDGE BLOCKED: 15,000 Tradies Take Over Melbourne

Can you feel it?

This is so much more than just a bunch of yobs singing a classic Aussie rock song on top of the Westgate Bridge. Something changed in Victoria today. Construction workers realised they have power. The State government cannot afford to repress them because they are the source of both economic activity in Victoria and political power for the Labor government.

At previous protests attended by ordinary people, young and old, male and female, Victoria Police had no compunction at unleashing brutality upon protesters they knew would not fight back.

But yesterday, they fought back.

These guys are big, strong, there are lots of them, and they are prepared to fight for each other. You touch one, you touch all. For this reason they were allowed to march around the city at will. There were lots of them too.

Then it clicked. The crowd realised they have the power. Naturally, they took over the freeways.

Police scrambled to meet them on the freeway.

What transpired was The Battle of Westgate Bridge.

Without construction workers the Victorian economy grinds to a halt. The construction industry has allowed the government to maintain the illusion of economic activity in Victoria during the lockdown. Daniel Andrews and the building unions are linked hand in glove. One hand feeds the other.

The unions have financial and political clout from mandatory union dues, the fact that you cannot work on a construction site without being a fee-paying union member, and because they are prepared to use violence to enforce these rules. Not to mention their links to organised crime.

The way it was supposed to work was that the unions would make sure their boys all got the jab to help the government could meet its vaccination targets in the key industry in the state. The payoff would be that the construction industry could roll on.

But they forgot one thing. Ordinary workers.

If Aussie blokes don’t want to take an experimental gene therapy there is nothing you can do about it. They’re practical too, and they understand power. Once they clicked as to why they had been allowed to wonder the city at will, they realised that they could go wherever they wanted, so they did.

From here, they will likely realise that they can make whatever demands they want. Daniel Andrews will find himself in a tight spot. Unless he is prepared to mow them down with machine gun fire, he will have to appease construction workers in some way.

If he does appease them, other sectors of the workforce wil demand the same conditions. If he doesn’t appease them, one of the key pillars of his dictatorship, the CFMEU, collapses. Then his plan to vaccinate the entire state comes crashing down.
