A reporter for The Mercury newspaper has triggered controversy in Tasmania after doing a televised report in blackface.
Given her thick Australian accent and red lipstick she is clearly white underneath. I mean seriously, why would a non-white person wear red lipstick? Their lips are brown. Either she’s a white woman in blackface or she is a brown woman in incongruous red lipstick.
Anyway, it is unclear what she was actually talking about in her report as the blackface controversy has overshadowed the original story. Local residents have described the incident as “disgusting” and “repulsive” and insisted that the council needs to do something about it.
The Mercury has not responded to The XYZ’s request for comment on the matter as The XYZ has not requested comment at this time.
