From the New York Post:

“The man captured in a photograph exemplifying the bravery of everyday people facing the Las Vegas madman’s rage has been identified as a US soldier.

“Matthew Cobos was seen lying atop the woman as bullets rained down on the 22,000 music fans at the Route 91 Harvest festival, leaving 58 people dead and about 500 injured.

“Cobos and the woman ended up on the ground during the stampede set off by Stephen Paddock’s attack from the 32nd floor of the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino, the Daily Mail reported.

“The hero also covered the terrified woman’s eyes to prevent her from witnessing the bloodbath before he whisked her to safety behind a vehicle, the outlet reported.”

Against our better judgement, from CNN:

“Amy McAslin and roommate Krystal Goddard dived under a table as gunfire rained down on fellow concertgoers in Las Vegas on Sunday night. Eventually, McAslin realized she was being shielded by someone who’d just been shot.

“A gentleman — I don’t know his name — he completely covered me,” McAslin told CNN. “He covered my face. He said, ‘I’ve got you.’

“Just truly incredible, (a) stranger, jumping over me to protect me.”

And from American ABC:

“Heather Melton still has her husband Sonny Melton’s favorite shirt. It’s a concert tee featuring the country music star Eric Church.

“But soon, she said, she is going to bury him in it.

“This shirt has kind of become a symbol of him to me, and I’ll always remember him wearing this shirt,” she said.

“Heather Melton, an orthopedic surgeon from Big Sandy, Tennessee, and Sonny Melton, a nurse, were both attending the Route 91 Harvest Music Festival in Las Vegas Sunday night when a gunman opened fire on the crowd, killing 58 with some 500 people injured.

“Heather Melton survived, but her husband, who had shielded her from the bullets, was killed.

“He protected me,” she said. “He saved my life.”
