Russia pushes to include Syria’s Assad in coalition against ISIS

Russian President Vladimir Putin is pushing for a new international coalition to fight against IS that would include Syria’s president, Bashir al-Assad.

While Syria and Russia have remained allies during the recent conflict, the United States and the West have attributed much of the blame of the current crisis on MrSource: Wikipedia Assad.

Embracing Assad as part of the solution rather than seeing him as the problem would be a significant policy shift for the West. However, it may be a necessary step in order to defeat IS and other terrorist groups operating in the region.
