The San Bernardino shooting is shaping up to the most deadly terrorist attack to take place on American soil since September 11, 2001, although you are unlikely to hear that from the mouth of President Barack Obama.
President Obama has been reluctant to name the attack an act of terrorism, purporting that it could have been workplace violence. However, the FBI have now confirmed that the mass shooting carried out by Syed Farook and Tashfeen Malik was indeed an act of terror.
Of course, none of perpetrator’s family members or friends were aware of their planned attack, even Farook’s mother who lived with the couple. Farook’s mother claims that she was none the wiser despite her son and his wife stockpiling weapons, bombs and ammunition, then planning the attack and destroying their mobile phones and computer hardware to try and cover up the electronic fingerprints. Nope, nothing to see here.
Tashfeen Malik praised Islamic State in a Facebook post shortly before their jihad style rampage on Syed Farook’s workmates, however authorities are being cautious about linking this attack to DAESH. Fourteen people we left dead and scores injured after their assault and later shootout with police.
You would think that there might be some stronger language from the president and his administration, given that significance of this particular attack since the devastation of 9/11. But as we know, Islam is the religion of peace, and therefore has nothing to do with terrorism, so we can’t treat this as a terrorist attack. And under Obama’s leadership we will just continue to pretend that terrorism isn’t happening by simply naming it something else. Or blaming it on climate change.
