Something curious has happened between 2006 and 2018. Back in 2006 the then Grand Mufti of Australia, Sheik Taj al-Din al-Hilali, was widely criticised for the following comments:
“If you take uncovered meat and place it outside on the street, or in the garden or park, or in the backyard without cover and the cats come and eat it … whose fault is it, the cats or the uncovered meat? … If she was in her room, in her home, in her hijab – no problem would have occurred.”
Such views were deemed to be “quite out of touch with contemporary values in Australia”, and he was forced from his position. Just another Bruce Ruxton, a relic of a bygone era. He had to go.
But in 2018, as reported on The XYZ, he has been reinstated as Grand Mufti, at least in Queensland, that is. Typical. They’re so backward there. Not like those progressive Germans. In their earnest efforts to atone for the holocaust, ze Germans are taking in so many refugees, that they will soon be a minority in their own country. Not that expressions like that matter in 2018. We’re all the same.
Actually, the Germans are so progressive that they have adapted to the values of new Germans:
“A school in Bavaria, Germany, has sent a letter to parents, asking them to ensure their daughters refrain from wearing revealing clothes, because refugee accommodation has been set up next to the school’s gym…
“The Syrian citizens are mainly Muslims and speak Arabic. The refugees are marked by their own culture. Because our school is directly next to where they are staying, modest clothing should be adhered to. Revealing tops or blouses, shorts or miniskirts could lead to misunderstandings.”
This isn’t the first time Germans have had to adapt to potential misunderstandings at the hands of an enriching culture.
So, Germany is a part of Europe. Thus, the belief that women should cover up to avoid being raped must be a European value. Australia is a nation of immigrants, and many of its immigrants are still from Europe. Thus, European values can be said to be Australian values.
Thus, if the belief that women should cover up to avoid being raped is a European value, it is an Australian value too.
That makes Sheik Hilali a true blue, dinki-di Aussie.
