Yesterday, an attempted peaceful protest by right-wing groups in Charlottesville, Virginia, USA, against the destruction of a monument dedicated to the memory of one of the greatest Generals their country has ever produced, was attacked by violent left-wing extremists. In the resulting mayhem, many have been injured and arrested, and three people are dead.
Above it all, Donald Trump has been utterly Presidential. It is gratifying that the following measured words have made socialists’ heads explode everywhere:
“We agreed that the hate and the division must stop, and must stop right now. We have to come together as Americans with love for our nation and … true affection for each other.”
“We condemn in the strongest possible terms this egregious display of hatred, bigotry and violence on many sides, on many sides.”
“It’s been going on for a long time in our country. Not Donald Trump. Not Barack Obama. It’s been going on for a long, long time.”
“What is vital now is a swift restoration of law and order and the protection of innocent lives.”
On many sides.
