In yet another clear example that the outrage industry is just that, very much a moneymaking industry, Tic Tac (a subsidiary of Ferrero S.P.A) has issued the following statement:
“Tic Tac respects all women. We find the recent statements and behavior completely inappropriate and unacceptable.”
This is completely and utterly ridiculous. This isn’t a company that was involved in a product recall, or was itself at the centre of a scandal. Did the Mannlicher firearms company distance itself from Lee Harvey Oswald because he used their rifle? Did Ford feel obliged to denounce O.J. Simpson because he bought a Bronco instead of a Jeep?
Of course not. Nobody sane expects Tic Tac to distance itself from the comments of someone who enjoys them. Ted Bundy probably liked Tic Tacs. Osama Bin Laden probably had the odd Tic Tac. I’m sure Jimmy Saville did too. Those trademark cigars require a fresh chaser.
This is not a chivalrous act by Tic Tac. This is a cynical marketing decision intended to sell more confectionary. Tic Tac felt overshadowed in the hot mic revelations and just like any sociopathic SJW they moved quickly to make it all about them.
If we’re going to get into the minutiae of male chauvinism and disrespect toward women, let’s take a quick look at the Ferrero S.P.A Board of Directors.
Seven people, and coincidentally seven dudes! Pot kettle much?
The tweet by Tic Tac is nothing short of hypocritical opportunist marketing at its most cynical. Well worth keeping in mind next time you’re tossing up between a product from Tic Tac parent company Ferrerro, and another less vocal confectioner.
It’s your XYZ…
