Food for thought – All the way with Empire day

As a Victorian (born and bred) I have great affinity for the legacy of Queen Victoria (as Victoria was the Monarch whom this state was named after). Thus enshrining Empire Day as an occasion of Imperial revival is something I tend to enjoy disseminating amongst my networks.

Empire Day was introduced to Australia in 1905 to provide a focus for celebrating Australia’s ties with Britain. It had been initiated in Canada in 1897, and following the death of Queen Victoria (22nd January 1901) was adopted throughout the British Empire and observed on Queen Victoria’s birthday (24th May).

In 1958 Empire Day was renamed Commonwealth Day (which was held on March 14th this year), in accordance with the new post-colonial relationship between Australia and Britain.

As a conservative monarchist I am both honoured and humbled to proclaim my loyalty to HRH Queen Elizabeth II (because the thought of pledging allegiance to a Turnbull, Shorten or Di Natale led republic only casts our country further towards the degenerate abyss).

So if you’re like me and want to toast a revival of the Imperial spirit, I say raise your glass this Tuesday 24th and sing the Royal Anthem “God Save the Queen”.

Food for thought.
