Burmese democracy activist and freedom fighter, Aung San Suu Kyi has won an historic election in Burma (Myanmar) today.
Although there are going to be monumental challenges ahead, this is landmark step for the nation which has languished under military and dictatorial rule for decades.
Aung San Suu Kyi is a model of determination and resilience, herself, having lived under house arrest in Burma’s former capital, Rangoon (Yangon) for 15 years. For Aung San Suu Kyi:
“Freedom and democracy are dreams you never give up.”
Through adversity and oppression, Aung San Suu Kyi never gave up, and she has finally achieved victory.
