No jab no fly

If I wanted to get back to Australia anytime soon I would most likely have to catch a train from Europe through Central Asia and then sign on as an able seaman on some dodgy bulk carrier braving its way through pirate infested waters. Sure, the first flight back to Oz from Europe since the whole Chinese pox scam landed yesterday carrying a hundred or so Australians who managed to find some way to board the plane. Perhaps a special pass was required that they got at some bar with a negro tinkling away on the ivories. If not now, perhaps that will be the way in the future. Maybe I had better start looking for an Ingrid Bergman or even a Lauren Bacall to hang on my arm to get me through the gate.

Ha ha, don’t be silly; they literally don’t make women like that anymore. Actually, that’s a mighty fine excuse to once again post the shot of Bacall waltzing her way across the floor.

… just make them all wear face masks and we’ll be good to go.

Qantas has stated that the company is unlikely to reopen routes to Europe and the USA from Australia for another year. This I can understand as the commercial airlines are at the mercy of collective government whim on this matter so they would be mad to get back to business as usual.

What should happen is that governments announce that this has all been a colossal mistake and that from tomorrow all controls and restrictions are lifted and that if you get the flu then just bloody well deal with it. But that is not going to happen no matter how much the evidence points that way as an admission of government guilt will open the floodgates for malpractice suits for the countless number of businesses and private individuals that have been adversely affected by the ludicrous response to the Chinese pox.

Governments are forced to continue with this sham because to do otherwise would court disaster for them. Much better to have disaster for everyone in the private sector, at least for the short term. The holy grail out of this mess for governments everywhere is the pretend vaccine which they are so desperate to roll out. But the populations are understandably wary at being injected with some rush-job chemical paste cooked up in the equivalent of a backyard meth lab. There are also tricky things such as constitutional rights. What to do, what to do.

Back to Qantas and that story I mentioned earlier:

Australians are unlikely to fly to the United States or UK on Qantas for another year, with its chief executive outlining that this could “potentially” happen “by the end of 2021”.

“For some of our big destination like the United States and the UK, it’s going to need a vaccine given the high prevalence of the virus in both of those locations,” Qantas Group boss Alan Joyce said at the company’s AGM in Sydney on Friday.

Governments will make the corporate sector do their dirty work for them. You won’t have to get a vaccine. You also won’t have to fly, drive, eat or do any other number of activities that we used to take for granted. Welcome to your brave new world and all that.
