We’ll all be rooned said Hanrahan..
That will be the case if we keep electing dead head labour and greens politicians who are intellectually challenged, technically and financially illiterate, and who lack a modicum of common sense….
It is time now to look in depth at some of the physics and practicalities of various wind turbine designs to complete this series of articles so that the avid XYZ readers will be able to speak confidently and knowledgably on this subject.
There is an addendum to this article, with links to Youtube presentations, for further study at your leisure at the end of these musings. The addendum is titled “All you ever wanted to know about wind turbines – but were afraid to ask. A commentator on part 5 has given a list of published data in wind farms from UK for reference as well. Thanks Alan.
This series has been designed as a self-paced learning exercise that will equip the readers to be held in high regard should they apply for employment in the following areas:
• Premier of South Australia, Premier of Victoria, Premier of Queensland
• Energy Minister of South Australia, Victoria or Queensland
• Principle wind turbine adviser to the Prime Minister of Australia and or Federal Minister of Energy and Environment
• Senior Technical Editor at the SMH or the Guardian Newspaper
• Correspondents who write for Crikey.com or the like or any of the rabid left-wing penny dreadful news sites.
The only thing all the above leaders and commentators have in common, is that they are entirely ignorant on the broad subject of wind farms, their justification, their viability and usefulness to society.
On completion of this course, and for the payment of a modest fee of $4000.00, you will be entitled to a grandiose gilded and embossed Certificate of Advanced Studies in Wind Farm Utility from that prestigious tertiary institution, The School of Hard Knocks.
The certificate will be printed on premium Australian papers in scroll format, dual layered, with perforations at each end. A secondary use of the certificate is that it can be readily used to light an outdoor barbeque, even in pouring rain, when the lights have gone out because of power shortages from wind turbine generators.
This course allows the participants to claim a VET loan to cover your cost of tuition and up-skilling in the workforce.
There is an ironclad guarantee with the above certificate that not one red cent of the course fees will be diverted to funding ISIS terror groups in Syria, but a tithe will go to supporting Israel in its time of testing.
Your guiding philosophy in your chosen work area is that old phrase:
“In the land of the blind,…….the one eyed man is KING.”
It is anticipated that you would use your new found knowledge to pour scorn and derision upon the heads of any Greens and lunatic lefties at any opportunity where they have been silly enough to expose their ignorance through public comment.
“………..there’ll be bushfires to be sure me man,
there will without a doubt,
We’ll all be rooned to be sure, before the year is out.”
Addendum: Everything you wanted to know about wind farms but were too afraid to ask
Run Time 5 mins.
Why do wind turbines have 3 blades, versus 2 or 4 blades.
Why wind turbines have 3 blades
There is a lot more to this subject than I have covered in this video, this is just the basics. I have used the Wind Turbine Handbook as my primary reference material. It covers pretty much everything you need to know about wind turbines. If you are studying this subject academically I highly recommend it. Run time 3 mins.
What is inside a wind turbine.
An overview of the layout of utility-class wind turbine generators – where are the major components, what do they do, and what differences can be found between models and size ranges. Run Time 10 mins.
Wind Turbine Physics.
The Basic Physics of Wind Turbines, Good Turbines or Bad Turbines (green ones). How to tell what is a good turbine or bad turbine usually comes down to basic physics. Run Time 17 mins.
Design principles of Wind Turbine blades, blade length, tower height and number of blades are explained elaborately in this animated video lecture. The factors affecting wind turbine design are its cost, mechanical rigidity and efficiency gain. This is 2nd and last and video on Wind turbine lecture series. Run Time 5.30 secs.
Structural Design Wind Turbine Blades
By Kim Branner. This lecture will explain how to formulate the basic principles of structural design and explain the difference between loads, boundary conditions and strength. Run Time 8.30 secs.
University level, but easy to follow. Shows a large turbine blade tested to destruction to verify design data.
Enercon Wind Turbine – a big mother.
The World’s Most Powerful Wind Turbine
The Most Powerful Wind Turbine in the World – Enercon E126. Run time 10:30 secs.
Manufacture of Enercon Turbine.
Promotional video about Enercon wind turbines. This video provides an educational overview on commercial wind turbine projects, from commissioning to manufacturing and after-sales. Run time 23 mins.
Sea Wind Farm Installation
Ship for Sea Based Wind Turbine Installation
A short film showing highlights from the installation of AREVA M5000 5M wind turbines at Global Tech I offshore wind farm in the German North Sea in 2014. The film features Fred. Olsen Windcarrier’s specialist jack-up installation vessels Brave Tern and Bold Tern as well as technicians from related company Global Wind Service, as they install tower sections, nacelles and rotor star blades. Run Time 5 mins.
Guided Tour of a Wind Turbine with Good Explanations.
Brief tour inside the Wind Turbine at Dundalk Institute of Technology.
A study of almost 3,000 turbines in Britain – the largest of its kind – sheds doubt on manufacturers claims that they generate clean energy for up to 25 years” … oops. Just 12 years.
Daily Mail [31 Dec 2012]
Report: Gordon Hughes (2012), “The Performance of Wind Farms in the United Kingdom and Denmark.”
If you look up the report in Google Scholar, it has been cited 21 times in various published journal articles, most recently June 2016.

Spain Aims for 100% renewable energy
Documentary on wind farms in Spain, quite extensive areas.
Claim that Spain can get up to 70% (at night when most industry shuts down) of their energy needs from wind farms – BUT they also have a nuclear station plus other gas turbines, hydro and coal fired stations.
Massive public debt E239 billion?? Or some such ridiculous number, 60% price hike on power costs. Mentions SA wind farms and blackouts.
It all sounds like BS to me
“Grumblebum” is a white Anglo Saxon male baby-boomer whose ancestors came by sailing boat from the UK in the 1880’s and settled in the southern states. They farmed (not always successfully) and built the land, and passed onto myself their heritage of democracy and laws based on the Judeo-Christian principles. I am just wondering why I am being harangued into forfeiting this by a bunch of under-educated, historically illiterate, unwashed and unemployable knuckle-draggers from the political left.
