A couple of weeks ago I saw a remark attacking the “neo-conservatives” of the Australian Government. The comment made me chuckle, because I don’t think the person making the post actually knew what he saying. Perhaps he felt adding “neo” in front of “conservative” made them sound meaner, and well, “ultra-conservative”? If that was the intention, then nice try but no cigar.
Neo-conservatives are, or perhaps more correctly, were at their peak political influence around the presidency of George W. Bush. Another point about “neo-cons” (as they are sometimes known) is that they are in many ways not particularly conservative – a fact which was most likely lost on the blogger.
More recently, I came across this rather good clip about 14 groups that make up the right wing in the North American context. While progressives insist that ideology and orthodoxy must be adhered to to the letter, on the other side, there is a great deal of variation of opinion among conservatives.
Most notable is the recent emergence of what is known as the “Alt-right”. In Australia, the Alt-right includes groups such as the United Patriots Front, elements of Reclaim Australia and the Party for Freedom. Perhaps this is what the blogger I mentioned above was incorrectly referring to, and perhaps he, and many of our left-wing friends, should watch the video below to learn about the great variety across the centre to ring wing of politics.
The video below is produced by Rebel media (A Canadian independent media group much like your XYZ, but with more resources provided by their Zionist overlords * just kidding*). Presented by punk-rocker-come-conservative Gavin McInnes, the clip is about 20 minutes long but well worth the watch. Tell us in the comments what kind of conservative you identify as!
