Victorian Premier Dan Andrews and the AFL have just announced the new public holiday on the Friday before the Grand Final will be known as ‘Goodes Friday’. ‘Black Friday’ had apparently been considered in deference to Goodes’s Celtic/Irish heritage, but it was considered that too many Australians would not have felt sufficiently marginalised were that antiquated term adopted.
