French police have foiled a planned terrorist attack. Members of an unknown group, clad in a black flag with Arabic script, were planning the attack, in which a police officer would be captured and beheaded, to mark the end of the holy month of Ramadan.
The French President said his intelligence forces had advised it was too early to say whether the arrested men, all of whom were filmed shouting “Allahu Akbar” as they were taken from their homes under heavy police escort, were members of a known terrorist group, nor what their motive was, nor could he say if the planned methodology of beheading bore any similarities to the methods employed by any known terrorist organisations. He added that interrogators were awaiting the arrival of Arabic interpreters prior to interviewing the arrested men, and that when asked if they would like the prison authorities to order a pizza the arrested men had requested a copy of the Koran instead.
One thing the President was, however, sure of, was that this heinous planned crime had nothing, nothing whatsoever, to do with Islam.
