Media Madness II: The Dangerous Epidemic

Hillary Clinton has finally emerged from her post-election furlough to address the faithful from the mount known as Capitol Hill.

Delusional Hillary.

Clinton had much about which to think in her time of reflection, including dragging over the entrails of her failed campaign and the election results, the post-election machinations of the Democrats following what can only be described as a spectacular defeat at almost all levels of government, the riots and civil unrest by her disappointed fans, and the new political reality and the Trump administration that is slowly coming into focus.

But if you were hoping that, after a month of sober reflection and introspection, and a little perspective, Clinton might finally conclude that her loss was due in no small part to her own conduct and political baggage, and a truly awful campaign, then you are to be bitterly disappointed; for Clinton seems no closer to accepting either the result of the election, or her responsibility for the loss.

Rather, Clinton has used the time to refine her blame-shifting, something at which she was already highly skilled, and to conclude that her loss to Trump was caused by none other than an ‘epidemic of malicious fake news and false propaganda’. And for the purposes Clinton and the MSM, ‘fake news’ is anything that seeks to counter their narrative or give voice to conservative viewpoints or opinions. It isn’t even original, representing nothing more than a regurgitation of the MSM bile fest directed at Breitbart News, the Drudge Report and any other alternative media that had the temerity to traverse the MSM narrative during the election and, worst of all, be proved right when the MSM was so spectacularly wrong.

Regrettably, the rhetoric doesn’t end there, as Clinton went to say that ‘It is imperative that leaders in both the private and public sector step up to protect our democracy and innocent lives’, and perhaps even more startlingly, ‘This is not about politics or partisanship. Lives are at risk, lives of ordinary people just trying to go about their days to do their jobs, contribute to their communities’. Just think about that for a second, apparently ‘fake news’ is now a threat to life.

This soaring stupidity is, of course, part of a vituperative campaign by the MSM and the Democrats to silence any media or person who put the case for Trump, and is particularly aimed at anyone who exposed the many troubling aspects of Clinton’s past, the activities of the Clinton Foundation or the appalling contempt in which Clinton and the Democrats hold ‘the deplorables’ who ultimately delivered the White House to Trump.

And there exposed is the most troubling aspect about the left of today: when the argument is lost, no consideration is given to changing their attitudes, policies or approach. Far better, as Mark Steyn has written, to cancel the argument with censorship. And in that purpose the left are allied with the MSM, and the vested interests that own and control it, which desperately need to explain away its failures, and protect the ability to control the narrative to their own benefit.
