In a bill just passed, the Victorian Government will now automatically recognise same-sex marriages formalised under international laws or laws of other Australian states.
There now remains little legal impediment for other forms of marriage not currently permitted under Australian (but formalised under foreign jurisdictions) to also be recognised in the future. There are currently 50 nations around the globe that allow polygamous marriages and 10 that allow the marriage of children.
In the spirit of non-discrimination and multicultural inclusion, the Victorian Government will no doubt be eager to remove the remaining discrimination in our laws so that all forms of love can be celebrated and affirmed in the state of Victoria.
