The citizens of Australia must surely be delighted that Malcolm Turnbull has proposed to cut down on instances of politicians unfairly wasting taxpayers’ money, by promising to spend more taxpayer money, and adding an extra layer of bureacuracy in the process. One wonders if the irony is lost on the great Australian republican that he decried John Howard’s wily opposition to a “Politicians’ Republic” in 1999; yet in promising to establish an independent agency to administer politicians’ entitlements, sorry, work expenses, he is now conceding that politicians cannot, indeed, be trusted.
Labor isn’t always so scrupulous, and the media, strangely, tend not to go so hard on them. This editor might add that it is only recently that the right has learned to play by the left’s rules, although it appears Turncoat still believes he can appease the insatiable thirst for right-wing blood in the left-wing media.
It’s your XYZ.
