Islamic State: “Don’t call us names or we’ll cut out your tongue!”

Today’s quote of the day comes to us from the Islamic State, otherwise known as ‘DAESH’.

IS, or DAESH has reportedly threatened to “cut of the tongues” of anyone using the word “DAESH.”

According to Arabic translator Alice Guthrie, “D.A.E.SH is a transliteration of the Arabic acronym formed of the same words that make up I.S.I.S in English: ‘Islamic State in Iraq and Syria’, or ‘al-dowla al-islaamiyya fii-il-i’raaq wa-ash-shaam’.”

Depending on how the word is conjugated in Arabic, it can mean “to trample down and crush.” But it can also mean “a bigot.”

Of course, former Prime Minister of Australia, Tony Abbott was one of the first world leaders to begin using the term DAESH in reference to the Islamic State. When asked why he chose to use the term DAESH, Mr Abbott simply stated:

“Daesh hates being referred to by this term, and what they don’t like has an instinctive appeal to me.”

So there you go, DAESH hate being called DAESH, and have threatened to cut out the tongue of anyone who uses the term, a move that is only going to encourage everyone to refer to them as DAESH all the more.

Easy Tiger 😉
