Today commemorates the 11th anniversary of Hunter S. Thompson’s self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head with his prized Magnum .44 revolver. This self-styled “Gonzo” journalist, whose daily diet of drugs, alcohol, violence and insanity fuelled a fiendishly addictive authoring career, would likely be eager to weigh in on the election extravaganza that is 2016.
Alas we are stuck with contemptuous little cretins, which pale in comparison to the calibre of commentary of this “freak power” crusader (something of relief to those of us favouring common-sense over “progressive” folly).
As fringe elements gyrate to the scraggly screeching melodies of Pussy Riot, while putting on their midday Dolezal style black-face to rally against Islamophobia (while supporting LGBTI rights) I’m sitting back drinking a glass of Wild Turkey reflecting on this quote from Hunter:
“In a closed society where everybody’s guilty, the only crime is getting caught. In a world of thieves, the only final sin is stupidity.”
